Get more information at the Admission Web site.

Step 2: Assessment
In assessment, your math and English skills are tested and the results, along with your previous grades, job experience and confidence level, will provide you with a recommendation about the appropriate level of DVC English and mathematics courses in which you are most likely to succeed.

You may be exempt from assessment or a portion of it. A list of exemptions and the exemption form are available on the Admissions Web site, or in the schedule of courses booklet.

Step 3: Orientation
You should register for Counseling 105. This course gives you an overview of programs, financial aid and support services available at DVC. You will work with a counselor to select an educational goal, to prepare your schedule and develop your educational plan. When you complete Counseling 105 before courses start, you will receive priority registration your first term. If you choose not to complete this process before classes start, you will not receive priority registration until you complete Counseling 105 or completed 12 units and meet with a counselor.

Step 4: Selecting Courses
You should meet with a DVC counselor on a regular basis. Once you've met with a counselor, you should have a good idea of what courses you need to take for your degree. Certificate or to transfer to another college or university. More information can be found about DVC courses in the catalog, available at the Book Center or online.

You should select courses that will advance your college goals.

Step 5: Registering for Courses
Once you have chosen your ideal course schedule for the term, it is a good idea to have a backup plan in case some of the courses you want are filled. Be prepared to be flexible.

Follow the instructions for registration located in the schedule of courses booklet, or online. For more information on registration procedures see the DVC catalog or contact the Admissions office.
