Advanced Technology Center

Information Update 9-20-06

The Advanced Technology Center (ATC) opened fall semester, 2006. The ATC—former Life Science building—consists of six computer labs, two wireless lecture labs and one video-conferencing lab (planning stages). On a priority scheduling basis, the ATC is a college resource for supervised computer labs, new programs, class reservations, online orientations, staff development and student service activities. Requests for ATC classrooms are made through the schedulers in the Instruction Office.

Currently, the following programs have first scheduling priority to specific rooms in the ATC: Computer science, multimedia, Microsoft, geographical information systems and meteorology according to the classroom utilization chart below. Scheduling priorities may change depending on college program needs.

When a classroom is not reserved by a priority program, it may be scheduled for any department or service area. In the case of multiple requests, reservations are determined by this priority:

  1. Semester length course utilizing technology
  2. Short-term course utilizing technology
  3. Class reservation utilizing technology for one or more sessions
  4. Other technology requests (e.g., faculty/staff workshops, student activities, etc.)
  5. General lecture courses
  6. Fee-based community requests (future)

Each classroom is equipped with an instructor computer, computer/video projector, DVD/VCR player, cable for personal laptop connection, cable for auxiliary video connection, wireless Internet and sound reinforcement (soon). The control panel for selecting sources to be displayed on the projector is mounted on the instructor table and no remote controls are needed.

The Computer Center (first floor of library building) continues to operate as a college-wide open-lab and scheduling resource. It has three computer lab areas that are separable by an accordion wall—L148, L149, L150. These labs are available for scheduling courses, class sessions or other activities.
