Student-Tutor Application Process
Employment Qualifications & Requirement

Before you finish
planning the schedule for your next semester, think about working as a tutor for
one of DVC' s Tutoring Centers or Labs. This job may be of interest to you
for a variety of reasons:
1. Tutoring is challenging, rewarding, and fun for both tutor and
tutee.
2. Tutoring
is an excellent way for students to gain experience and insight, if
you are considering teaching as a career.
3. Tutoring experience is valuable for scholarship, college,
and job applications as well as résumés.
4. Tutoring is a useful tool to gain in-depth knowledge in a variety
of subject matters.
5. Tutoring gives you a rare opportunity to experience the dynamics
of teamwork and thus contribute to the growth of campus community.
6. Trained tutors are paid $9.74 per hour.
7. Tutors earn a CERTIFICATE of Tutoring after successful
completion of one-year of tutoring with DVC Tutoring Services.
To qualify for a tutor position, you should:

Earn a ‘B’ grade or better in the class you want to tutor.

Receive a written recommendation from the instructor of each class you want to tutor, respectively.

Attend a
three-day intensive Tutor-Training Workshop offered by the Tutoring center or a Tutor Training Class (Math 140 or English
140) before or during the semester when you are seeking employment.

Speak, write, and understand English fluently and clearly.

Be
registered for 6-DVC-units minimum to qualify as a student worker.

Not exceed 20 hours a week in your total workload on DVC campus

Be
eligible to work on campus.

Make
a commitment to work as a tutor for a
minimum
of two semesters.
If you meet the eight qualifications and
requirements listed above and are passionate about helping others, please
fill out the attached application form, include a copy of your unofficial
transcripts, and return to the
Tutoring Center. Please have
your instructor complete the recommendation letter (form) and
send it to the Tutoring Center directly.
After reviewing your application, you may be invited for a 30 minute interview. If
offered a position, you will be required to attend the next available
Tutor Training class/workshop.
