Women's Services
There are a growing number of
groups, agencies and programs that focus on the needs of women. The Diablo
Valley College women’s services program prepares students for paraprofessional
employment as human services workers in government and non-profit agencies.
Human services workers, under
the supervision of nurses, counselors, social workers, psychologists and other
professionals, provide assistance to women in the community.
Students
learn:

gain an understanding of:

in a social service setting,

the
social forces impacting women’s lives,

the
diversity of women’s experiences,

the
impact of race/ethnicity, class and gender on women’s experiences.
Some
of the skills that students will gain are:

basic
computer literacy skills,

assessment skills,

social
service research skills,

interview
and communication skills,
-
organizational
skills,
-
the
ability to identify the appropriate help that is needed.
