Pre-Apprenticeship

Are you interested in pursuing a career in the trades?

Get hands-on training in DVC's pre-apprenticeship program - offered every spring! You'll join a cohort of students learning about construction processes and occupational health and safety principles. The program features field trips to union halls and construction sites, real job site experiences, and dedicated faculty and staff providing academic and career support.

DVC's pre-apprenticeship program gives its students a competitive advantage in their pursuit of a career in the trade of their choice. Students interested in a trade career pathway need to apply for an apprenticeship position at a local trade union, training institution, professional association, or employment agency/program in order to acquire specialized skills and on-the-job training and experience.

Landing an apprenticeship usually requires an applicant to pass a Math and English* proficiency exam and an in-person interview. The goal of DVC's Pre- Apprenticeship Program is to prepare you for this.

The application period for our spring 2024 Pre-apprenticeship program begins October 1.

If you are interested in participating in the Spring 2024 semester or learning more about the program, please complete our Spring 2024 Interest Form.

*Subjects featured on exams may differ depending on institution proctoring test

About degrees and certificates

Certificates:
A certificate readily prepares you to enter a particular field or career. It can also give you new skills for advancement in the workplace.

Associate Degrees:
An associate degree requires a broader education for career options in a range of industries. It's a great step towards earning a bachelor degree at a four-year school or entering the workforce sooner.

Associate Degrees for Transfer:
A transfer degree is equivalent to the first two years of a bachelor’s degree program. Earning one can guarantee admission to California State Universities, some private and online universities, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). ADTs, along with a transfer agreement guarantee (TAG) with the University of California system can help you achieve your goals for less. Learn about transfer services.
