November 16, 2020:  Add descriptive links to one Canvas module

Accessibility Goal of the Week

Last week we learned about what descriptive links are and why they are so important for usability.  This week, pick one module in your Canvas course and put what you've learned into practice.  Go through each page in the module, identify any links present, and read the current link text.  If the link text is not sufficiently descriptive, edit the text accordingly.

Some things to remember as you draft your descriptive links:

  • Link text must make sense out of context
  • Only use a URL if it's short and it's clear where the user will be taken (e.g. www.amazon.com).
  • Try and keep link text concise, while still maintaining clarity.

In case you missed it last week, here is a video which covers how to create a link from descriptive text in Canvas and Word.
