Students are placed with local hosts in the surrounding community by Diablo Valley Homestay, which carefully screens and selects its hosts to ensure that students are living in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment. Living in a homestay allows international students to learn more about American culture and develop a close relationship with their local host. It also provides students with an English-speaking environment to continually improve their language skills. Students who live in a homestay receive a private furnished bedroom, two meals per day Monday – Friday, three meals per day Saturday and Sunday, and all utilities for the set rate of $1200/month, paid directly to their host. Students also pay a one-time $450 placement fee, directly to Diablo Valley Homestay.
Students should complete the Housing Application and return it to Diablo Valley Homestay 4-6 weeks in advance of their arrival date, if possible. The completed application will be used to help match the housing needs of each student with the available hosts in the community. Waiting until the last minute to submit the Housing Application may result in the student having to pay an additional late fee, as well as the student risking not being able to receive a homestay placement due to all the homes already being full. Diablo Valley Homestay can also provide assistance for homestay students who need airport pick-up service to be arranged.
