High school students entering Diablo Valley College, continuing DVC students, and students transferring to four-year colleges and universities will find many opportunities to compete for scholarships. These scholarships have been established for DVC students by individual sponsors, local, state, and national organizations. The Diablo Valley College Scholarship Program application offers a variety of scholarships through one convenient application.
Eligibility: Scholarship awards are based on a variety of criteria. Some of the major areas of consideration are grade point average, financial need, and community service experience. The majority of scholarships require that students have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 for consideration. You have to be an enrolled DVC student during the Fall 2008 and/or Spring 2009 terms to be eligible to apply unless you are a new incoming graduating high school student. DVC Alumni who were not enrolled for the Spring 2009 term are not eligible to apply. Deadline for applying: Applications must be received in the Scholarship Program Office by noon, Monday, February 2, 2009 in order for the students to receive a scholarship for the next academic year. Click here for the current application filing period. How to apply:
Use this link to access STARS Online, the new online scholarship
application program. STARS requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. You can come back any time to review your scholarship status. Students must also
provide materials which support their application as identified in the application process.
Letters of Recommendation: You must secure two letters
of recommendation/statement of support as part of the scholarship application process. One letter should be from a campus faculty
member, and the other should be from an employer, former teacher, agency representative, etc. Click
here for the Letter of Recommendation
/Statement of Support form. It is a Word document. The letters should be addressed to “Scholarship Committee Members”, and should highlight your
academic performance, leadership abilities, volunteer activities, etc. The completed Letter of Recommendation forms must be sent by the person writing the letter, from his or her email
account. The letters should be emailed to LMills@dvc.edu. Both
letters must be received via email by noon on February 2, 2009 or the student application will be incomplete
and therefore, the student will be ineligible for scholarship awards. Notification: Scholarship award letters will be emailed to recipients beginning late April through the summer term. The letter will indicate the scholarship amount and how the award funds will be disbursed. Students who are not awarded scholarships will be notified during the spring term. Other Scholarships: There are additional scholarship opportunities available from outside sources. Applications for these scholarships are also available in the Scholarship Program Office. These applications have varying application deadline dates. It is important to check the Scholarship Program Office regularly to avoid missing deadlines. We also offer other resources to assist students in their scholarship search. Office Location and Hours The Scholarship Program Office is located with the Foundation Office in the Administration Building, Room 110.
