Andrea Medina

Faculty

Dr. Andrea Medina has been a Media Studies Instructor in the Film, Television, and Electronic Media Department (FTVE) at Diablo Valley College since 2022. She is currently the Co-Coordinator of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander Learning Community (AANHPI), and the Faculty Lead at the Arts, Communication & Language (ACL) Student Center. 

Born and raised in the San Francisco, Bay Area - Dr. Medina has been fortunate enough to travel and do what she loves: media production. She began her educational journey in community college at City College of San Francisco. Then transferred to complete the Undergrad & Master's program at SFSU in Broadcast Electronic Communications Arts. Professor Medina recently obtained her Doctorate in Education & Organizational Leadership from the University of Massachusetts. 

For the last 10-years, Professor Medina has taught the following courses in Media Studies: Advanced Studio Video Production, Social Media for Professionals, American Cinema, Film & Media, and Ethnic Studies in Film. 

Andrea holds work experience with major corporations such as: ABC-7 KGO TV-Bay Area, Clear Channel Radio, KDOL, Oakland Raiders, and Cal Berkeley Football. Moreover, as an entrepreneur, she started her own production company "SFTV" which showcased media coverage of statewide events, airing on KOFY-TV20. 

Dr. Medina holds a heavy background in television, radio, film, entertainment, sports journalism, video field production, and digital/social media. She is currently committed to several clients in the world of digital media marketing. Her most recent publication includes themes revolving around Educational Leadership with Dissertation research investigating "Digital Media Strategies Implementing Leadership & Teamwork" (Medina, 2024). 

Professor Medina is also the proud Co-Advisor of the Black Student Union (BSU) and Filipino (KK) Club, in addition to being the Project Lead and Executive Producer of the new Video Podcast on campus, “Locked In” - empowering students of color to "utilize their voice".
