EOPS/CARE + CalWORKs & Foster Youth Services

We recognize systemic and societal disadvantages exist for our students. Therefore, our goal is to create a safe environment that is inclusive, supportive, and conducive to academic success.

We continually strive to improve ourselves by bettering our own mindsets, practices, and the services we provide. We are committed to transforming the experiences of our students and nurturing their growth.

We believe in our students’ potential and work to cultivate their success through collaborative and holistic support. We strive to build relationships, develop community, and equip students with the skills to be successful both here and beyond DVC. In connecting students to comprehensive student support services, we are the “go-to” resource to help students successfully navigate higher education.

Overview of Our Programs

  • CalWORKs is designed to provide comprehensive and coordinated student services to individuals who receive cash assistance from the Employment and Human Services Department and are enrolled at Diablo Valley College.

The CalWORKs program strives to empower each participant in attaining personal and academic growth, meaningful employment, and long-term economic stability. The program is designed to help CalWORKs students complete the academic and career training they need to successfully move from welfare-to-work and to become economically self-sufficient.

  • Our Student Transition and Academic Retention Teams (START) bring California's NextUp program for foster youth to DVC.

START+NextUp are support programs designed to increase access, retention, and graduation rates for current and former foster youth at DVC. START+NextUp provide a warm and welcoming environment, create a support network, and empower foster youth students to make progress towards self-sufficiency, professional success, and community leadership.
