Brian Raymond

Department Chair, Mathematics

Professor Brian Raymond has been a dedicated member of Diablo Valley College’s faculty since 2015 and currently serves as the Mathematics Department Chair. With over 25 years of experience in education, he has taught at every level, from middle school to college. He holds a master’s degree in mathematics from California State University, East Bay, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Brian’s teaching journey began with the United States Peace Corps, where he served as a mathematics teacher in Tanzania, East Africa. His time there was transformative, not only teaching full-time but also coaching a basketball team that went on to win a regional championship. Following his service in Tanzania, Brian taught and coached at the Athenian School for over a decade before joining the faculty at DVC.

At DVC, Brian has played a pivotal role as the AB705 coordinator, collaborating with colleagues to improve student access to transfer-level math courses. He is passionate about teaching math at all levels and enjoys helping students explore its applications to their other courses and to the world at large.
