Roxann Schmidt

Laboratory Coordinator, Senior

Roxann Schmidt has over 20 years of experience in tutoring and teaching to her dual roles at Diablo Valley College. Growing up as an incurable bookworm, Roxann’s favorite place to hang out as a teenager was at local bookstores. Perhaps, it is not surprising that she enjoys sharing space with the San Ramon Library in the Academic Support Center.

In Roxann’s primary role as a Senior Lab Coordinator, she helps recruit, train, and mentor student tutors. Roxann is proud to have helped develop the campus’ tutor training program. She also teaches English and has long embraced online instruction—even before taking an online course herself.

Roxann began her academic journey at a community college in San Diego before transferring to University of California, Davis. She is grateful that she was able to attend community college since it afforded her the opportunity to support herself through college while learning from the most encouraging instructors. She later earned a master’s degree in English (with a concentration in Composition and Rhetoric) from CSU Sacramento. Her passion lies in supporting students through the writing process and creating inclusive learning environments.

Roxann is an active member of DVC’s Pride Alliance, and she spearheaded the San Ramon Campus’ first Trans Awareness Week as well as supported DVC in their first ever Pride flag raising. Roxann also has a strong interest in neurodiversity, particularly with ADHD and dyslexia.

As a lifelong learner, Roxann continues to challenge herself with strategy games like Pandemic Legacy and Terra Mystica. She also enjoys exploring the outdoors with her family and friends.
