Sonja Nilsen is a Senior Program Coordinator in Welcome & Connect Services. She has worked for more than 25 years supporting students and helping them succeed at Diablo Valley College. A proud DVC alumna, she began her own college journey at DVC, earning her associate degree while working as a student worker. Her experience as both a student and employee gives her a unique perspective and continues to inspire her commitment to student success.
Sonja earned her bachelor’s degree from Sonoma State University and her Master of Public Administration from CSU Hayward. Throughout her career in student services, she has enjoyed helping students navigate college processes, connect with resources, and reach their educational goals.
Outside of work, Sonja enjoys staying active through hiking and biking, as well as attending concerts and comedy shows. She is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and loves spending time with her dogs and helping people build stronger relationships with their canine companions.
Sonja is passionate about education and takes great pride in helping students overcome challenges, discover opportunities, and achieve their goals at Diablo Valley College.
