Dr. Ríos is the author of "Human Targets: Schools, Police, and the Criminalization of Latino Youth," "Punished: Policing the Lives of Black and Latino Boys," and other nonfiction books related to the ways systems affect minority groups in U.S. society. He is also a MacArthur Foundation Chair and Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His community activism involves working with local school districts to develop programs and curricula aimed at improving interactions between authority figures and young people.
