In this talk, Professor Colin Masashi Rohahiio Ehara (he/him) will highlight research asking participants to identify and analyze the causes and consequences of "Formal / Standard / Academic" English supremacy in U.S. schooling. The discussion explores how legacies of colonialism continue to devalue forms of communication from historically dispossessed Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color - particularly in "urban" social contexts - and what possibilities exist for healing and repair.
