Steps to Enroll

Welcome to Diablo Valley College! We are excited to start you on your path to academic and life success. Already a DVC student? Once you've found the classes you want to take, you can go directly to InSite to register.

For Assistance

Welcome Services provide one-on-one assistance via zoom to students who need help with completing the application, online orientation, English and math placements and registering for classes. (Welcome Services does not provide academic advising. If you need help with selecting classes visit the Counseling Page)

If you need one-on-one assistance, please complete the Virtual Lab request form.

PLEASE NOTE: All attendees are required to turn on their audio and video functions as well as show a photo ID (e.g. driver’s license, CA ID, passport, high school ID, etc.). In compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), we will only discuss account information directly with the student.


Steps to getting started with the application

Before you begin the application process, it’s a good idea to gather and review the following materials and information:

  • Social Security Number
    • A Social Security Number is not required, but is highly recommended.  You must supply a Social Security Number to receive the tax form 1098T or to apply for Financial Aid (including FT3 – our free tuition program available to first time college student only). 
    • DREAMers, read this important information.
    • If you are not a US citizen, excluding F1 students, you will also need your Alien Registration Number or VISA information.
  • Previous education information. Know the names and dates (month and year) of all high schools and colleges you’ve attended.
  • Email address. This is where we’ll send follow-up information about your application. If you do not have one, create one before you apply.
  • You will also be asked to select an educational goal. An educational goal is what you ultimately hope to achieve at DVC, and can include a certificate, an associates degree, or a transfer to a four year institution. Below is a list of all choices available on the application.
Educational Goals
  • Obtain an associate degree and transfer to a 4-year institution
  • Transfer to a 4-year institution without an associate degree
  • Obtain a 2-year associate degree without transfer
  • Earn a career technical certificate without transfer
  • Discover/formulate career interests, plans, goals
  • Prepare for a new career (acquire job skills)
  • Advance in current job/career (update job skills)
  • Maintain certificate or license
  • Educational development
  • Improve basic skills
  • Complete credits for high school diploma or GED
  • Move from non-credit coursework to credit coursework
  • 4-year college student taking courses to meet 4-year college requirements
  • Undecided on goal

New students

You have never taken a college class before, and you are not currently in high school.

Graduating High School Seniors

You are a senior in high school, preparing to attend DVC in the summer or fall after you graduate.

Returning student

You were previously enrolled at DVC, LMC, or CCC but have not taken a class for one year or more.

High school student

You will be enrolled in high school and DVC at the same time.

Transferring from another college

You have never attended DVC, LMC, or CCC, but have completed classes at another college.

Lifelong learner

You are taking classes for skill or personal improvement and are not planning to complete degree or transfer requirements.

International student

You are planning to get an F-1 visa, currently studying in the US in F-1 status and would like to transfer to DVC, or are a former F-1 student that would like to return to DVC.

Military and veteran student

You are currently or have previously been active in the armed forces. You are a dependent, and would like to receive VA education benefits.

Community education

You are interested in our Emeritus, College for Kids or College Prep Academy programs.
