Anna Kuzmenko began at DVC in 2020 to study programming, aiming for a computer science degree to explore software development. However, along the way she uncovered a new passion—one that would change her path entirely.
This marks the best performance in the school’s history and the best performance on record for any Northern California team at the Phi Rho Pi National Championships. The tournament awards “Gold” award to the top two schools in each entry size category, putting Diablo Valley College (DVC) second overall in the Large School division.
After earning an AS degree in Dental Hygiene from DVC, Rachel worked as a dental hygienist and earned an additional license as an Alternative Practice Hygienist.
In November 2023, six students from DVC’s Chinese program entered the National Chinese Expo of Student Works. The objective of this event is to provide students with a platform to show their talents as well as their experience in learning the target language.
Diablo Valley College students earned national recognition at the 2025 AAICE Student Works Expo, a nationwide competition celebrating student achievement in Mandarin language and Chinese culture.

Library technology students gain skills in digital technology, archiving, and research applicable to roles in varied library settings.
“During my first year at DVC, I was at a crossroads. While at a dental cleaning appointment, my hygienist asked me about my goals. She told me how much she enjoyed being a dental hygienist. After that conversation, I looked into dental hygiene, and the rest is history,” said Michael Vu, a 2015 graduate of the DVC dental hygiene program.
