Welcome to Special Education

I’m Carrie Million, Program Lead for the Special Education program at Diablo Valley College, and I’m thrilled that you’re considering joining us! If you’re passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with diverse learning needs, our program provides a unique and rewarding pathway into the field of special education.

As the only dedicated Special Education program in Contra Costa County, DVC offers an exclusive opportunity to gain specialized training at the community college level. Our experienced faculty bring real-world knowledge into the classroom. Many of them actively work in K-12 schools, ensuring you learn from professionals who understand current special education practices, challenges, and innovations.

One of the greatest benefits of studying special education at DVC is the affordable tuition and immediate job prospects. You don’t need a bachelor’s degree to begin working in the field—our program prepares you for in-demand jobs that allow you to start making a difference right away, all while keeping your education costs low.

At DVC, you won’t be navigating this journey alone. Because our program is so specialized, you’ll take classes with the same group of students, creating a strong, supportive community. Many of our students build lifelong friendships and professional connections that continue well beyond graduation.

Our program is also designed with flexibility in mind, offering online and asynchronous course options to help balance education with work and family responsibilities. Whether you're a working professional, a parent, or managing other commitments, our flexible learning format allows you to advance your education on your schedule without compromising on quality or support.

We’re excited to support you on your path to a career in special education. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’d love to help you take the next step!

Warm regards,
Carrie Million
