Choosing a major or career path is an exciting opportunity for you! DVC Career Services has collected a few of our favorite online resources to explore as you make these important decisions.

These resources offer different tools to help you consider what is most important to you, what you like doing, and how your strengths can help you figure out what career might be a good fit for you.

  • The 16Personalities test is a free, web-based adaptation of the Myers-Briggs framework (MBTI/RIASEC) that assigns users one of 16 personality types. It provides detailed insights into strengths, weaknesses, career suggestions, relationship dynamics, and personal development tips, all in a user-friendly format with visual profiles and global comparison tools.

  • Career Coach is a district-run website that allows you to find a good career by providing the most current local data on wages, employment, job postings, and associated education and training. Career Coach also provides detailed information about the various occupations available.

  • CareerOneStop is a free, comprehensive career, education, and job search resource from the U.S. Department of Labor, offering over 60 tools including interest, skills, and values assessments—complete with instant downloadable or emailable results—plus detailed profiles and videos for 900+ occupations . It helps students explore training opportunities and certifications, compare salaries and employment trends locally and nationally.

  • Learn How to Become is a website that gives you insight into the details of the different jobs out there. You can also search for degrees and major paths according to the field in which you want to work. The website also has a plethora of guidebooks filled with tips and advice on resumes, interviewing, and job searching.

  • My Next Move is a free, interactive career exploration tool from the U.S. Department of Labor designed to help students discover careers that match their interests and goals. It offers a searchable database of over 900 occupations, a quick Interest Profiler assessment, and detailed information on skills, education, salaries, and job outlook.

  • The O*NET Interest Profiler is a free, 60-question online self-assessment based on the RIASEC (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional) model that helps users identify their core work-related interests. It generates a personalized interest profile and links those insights to over 900 occupations in the O*NET and My Next Move databases, offering matches matched to one’s top interest areas and relevant Job Zones.

  • Use this resource to see a list of the 80 majors outlined on the site. Click on any major title to access information and links. The information outlines common career areas students enter with this major, typical employers hiring students in this field, and strategies designed to maximize career opportunities. 

    Understand that the areas and websites are representative of typical career paths associated with each major and are not an exhaustive list. The websites in the links section provide additional information about each major and the occupations commonly associated with it. 

    Research links within four categories: Professional Associations, Occupational Outlook Handbook, Miscellaneous Career Sites, and Job Postings.

  • My Next Move is an interactive tool for job seekers and students to learn more about their career options. My Next Move has tasks, skills, salary information, and more for over 900 careers. Users can find careers through keyword search, by browsing industries that employ different types of workers, or through the O*NET Interest Profiler, a tool that offers personalized career suggestions based on a person's interests and level of work experience.

  • California Career Zone is a proven, successful career exploration and planning system designed especially for students. Jobseekers, educators, and counselors will also benefit from the wealth of information on 900 occupations from the Occupational Information Network (O*Net) database.

    Users are encouraged to work through the Interest Profiler, Work Importance Profiler, and Assess Yourself assessment based on the Holland Codes for self-exploration. Comprehensive information on 900 occupations includes state-specific wages, worker attributes, job characteristics, and much more. 

    300 career videos give users a snapshot of the featured occupation. Job openings on Job Central are easily accessible within each occupation's profile. Please continue investigating from the Resource link where other useful resources are listed.
