About scholarships

Scholarships are monetary or in-kind awards made to help support a student's education.  Scholarships may be awarded on the basis of academic or personal achievement.  Entering DVC students, continuing DVC students, and students transferring to four-year colleges and universities will find many opportunities to compete for scholarships.  Generally, there are two types of scholarship opportunities available to DVC students, DVC scholarship opportunities and external scholarship opportunities.

DVC scholarship opportunities are available to DVC students who are enrolled in at least six units throughout the academic year and plan to be a continuing student at DVC or plan to transfer to a four-year college or university.  Students may apply for DVC scholarships through the DVC AcademicWorks Online Scholarship Application.  The DVC Scholarship Program is directly supported by donor contributions made through the DVC Foundation.

External scholarship opportunities are available to high school and/or college students and are offered by organizations, businesses, and individuals outside of the DVC campus.  External scholarships may have different eligibility criteria and/or distinct application processes, and it is important to research these scholarship opportunities thoroughly.  DVC provides an extensive list of external scholarship opportunities within the DVC AcademicWorks Online Scholarship Application tool.
