Welcome to Geographic Information Systems & Global Positioning Systems

Welcome to Geographic Information Systems & Global Positioning Systems!

If you’ve ever used a map on your phone, tracked a delivery, or followed a fitness route, you’ve already experienced the power of geospatial technology. At Diablo Valley College, our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) program gives you the opportunity to go beyond everyday use and learn how to build, analyze, and apply these technologies in real-world careers.

As one of the most comprehensive GIS/GPS programs in the Bay Area, DVC offers hands-on training across the full spectrum of geospatial tools (GIS, GPS, Remote Sensing, and Drone) - making it a top choice for students who want to quickly develop job-ready skills in a high-demand field.

Our program is designed to get you ready for work with practical, real-world applications. From military operations and urban planning to environmental conservation and tech innovation, GIS and GPS are used across countless industries—and our curriculum is built to reflect that. You'll gain skills that can lead directly to employment, often without needing a four-year degree.

You’ll also train with cutting-edge, industry-standard tools, including the same software and hardware used by professionals in the field today. This kind of access gives you a serious advantage as you transition into internships, jobs, or further education.

Although we’re a small program, we pride ourselves on our strong student community. As you move through your courses, you’ll learn alongside a cohort of like-minded peers, building a network of collaboration and support that extends beyond the classroom.

And behind every class is a team of highly educated, experienced instructors who bring both academic knowledge and real-world experience into the learning environment. Their passion and expertise ensure that you’re not just learning theory—you’re building a foundation for a successful, rewarding career.

We invite you to explore the possibilities that geospatial technology has to offer, and we look forward to helping you take the next step toward your future.

Warm regards,
