In a learning community, you take a set of classes (two or more) together, which gives you a great opportunity to make friends. Even better, these shared classes are specifically designed to help you do your best as a college student. Classes in a learning community are linked by common themes or student interest. Check out the list below to find a community that works for you.

Tembo Leaders: An African American Men’s Collective

Tembo Leaders provides African American men with the tools they need to thrive! Tembo provides you with a supportive environment to further develop your academic success and your leadership skills. Together, with other African American men, we’ll work to increase your self-knowledge, grow your confidence, and achieve abundance. Come Join us!

Early Childhood Education Professional Development Cohorts

Love working with children? Find and create community while earning credits in Early Childhood Education! Consider joining DVC's Early Childhood Education (ECE) cohort program today.

First Year Experience Program

New to DVC? Want support in your transition to college? The First Year Experience program is here to help!

Linked Classes

Build community in a linked class! Linked classes give you an opportunity to take two classes that share a theme, assignments, and other course material.

MESA Program

Do you love math and/or science? Are you the first in your family to go to college? Are you on financial aid? Then MESA is the place for you! Visit MESA in the PUMA Center.

PACE Program

Program for Adult College Education: This online/hybrid program fits your busy schedule. With DVC PACE, you can pursue a college education while balancing work, school, family, and scheduling demands.

Community of Pride

LGBTQ+ students and allies, join a Community of Pride! Take classes focused on queer-specific content and build community at DVC with like-minded students and instructors.

Puente Program

You can do it! If you're the first in your family to go to college and you're planning to transfer, apply to DVC's Puente program. Puente is an award-winning interdisciplinary program designed to help more of California's educationally underrepresented students transfer to four-year colleges and universities. PUMA Center

The PUMA Center (Puente, Umoja, and MESA Achievement) is the home for three college access and success programs – Puente, Umoja, and MESA. The center was established in 2015 and serves as a community for students, a place to study, and a place to build mentoring and leadership opportunities.

STEM Pathways

STEM Pathways supports our local high school graduates to successfully complete the transition into a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) course of study at Diablo Valley College.

Umoja Program

Year Up Bay Area

Year Up is an intensive, one-year technology-training program for Diablo Valley College students that combines hands-on skill development with professional internships at some of the Bay Area's top companies.
