DVC Shines at the 2023 Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year Awards!

  • October 19, 2023

Congratulations to our exceptional DVC educators who were recognized at the 2023 Contra Costa County Teachers of the Year program. They serve as inspiring examples of the remarkable dedication and talent present within the DVC community.

DVC Professor of Communication Studies, Robert Hawkins, was awarded Teacher of the Year for the Contra Costa Community College District. With a commitment to excellence and a passion for teaching, Professor Hawkins draws inspiration not only from his work but also from the remarkable support of the vibrant DVC community.

“Our students, fellow professors, and staff continue to inspire me each day.  Awards like these are really just reflections of the wonderful community that I have the privilege to serve. I am thankful to the DVC community for this recognition,” Hawkins said.

Natasha Paul, one of the co-teachers of the year in 2022, was part of this year’s ceremony. Natasha is an educator from the Mount Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD) and plays a vital role teaching in the College Now program at DVC, bridging the gap between high school and college education.

Joseph Alvarico was one of this year’s co-teachers of the year winners. Joseph teaches at Ygnacio Valley High School and is an integral part of DVC's CCAP-STEM program. In this innovative program, high school students in the Engineering Pathway at Ygnacio Valley take DVC classes, allowing them to graduate high school with over a year's worth of college credit. Joseph teaches as an adjunct faculty member in the ENGTC department at Ygnacio Valley and also serves as an adjunct faculty on the DVC campus this semester for our CCAP-STEM program. Joseph's dedication to shaping the future of these students is truly commendable.

The recognition of these exceptional educators at the 2023 Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year awards is a testament to the outstanding quality of education and the commitment to excellence that thrives at DVC. We congratulate these remarkable individuals and applaud their tireless efforts in shaping the future of our community.
