Learning by Doing – Connecting Education to Work

DVC career education programs integrate hands-on learning right in the classroom. Students also have many options to learn in a work setting. This is referred to as work-based learning. During the pandemic, some DVC faculty had to get creative, offering virtual experiential learning rather than in-person opportunities. But with a greater number of classes being held on-campus in fall 2021, students will be able to enjoy the hands-on experiences they have become accustomed to at DVC.

DVC Students Make Waves: Impressive Showcase at the National Chinese Expo of Student Works

In November 2023, six students from DVC’s Chinese program entered the National Chinese Expo of Student Works. The objective of this event is to provide students with a platform to show their talents as well as their experience in learning the target language.

DVC Early Childhood Education Program Gives Luis Gonzales Room to Play

“I decided to become an early childhood education teacher because of the fond memories of my early schooling. I remember the warm teachers, the smell of the paint materials and the moments of play,” said Luis Gonzalez, a student enrolled in the early childhood education (ECE) program at DVC. Many students stack credentials. This means they work in the field while enrolled and pursue multiple certificates or degrees to advance in their career.

The Art of Rick Godinez

Rick Godinez is a Bay Area painter and art educator whose work deals with themes of history, identity, and power. He is a graduate of San Jose State University and Stanford University, and was a participant on a panel of Chicano artists at the de Young museum of San Francisco, a representative of Bay Area artists as part of a nationwide event at the Museum of the African Diaspora, and a moderator for a conversation between artists Enrique Chagoya and Rupert Garcia at the Berkeley Art Museum.
