Student Organizations

Student government, clubs, and activities at Diablo Valley College (DVC) are student initiated and run.  Involvement in student organizations and activities provides opportunities to develop valuable leadership and interpersonal skills that will benefit the student while at DVC, as well as in the future. Students learn to organize and to work with others, pursue special interests, and make friends.

 

ASDVC

The Associated Students of Diablo Valley College (ASDVC) is the student government at DVC  The ASDVC is responsible for advocating for and representing students' perspectives on College and District committees, councils and task forces. Students who are interested in joining the ASDVC must meet the following requirements:

  • Attend an Information Session
  • Completing the petition process within the first two weeks of the semester
  • Enroll in and maintain at least five semester units at DVC
  • Be free from academic/disciplinary probation
  • Have an maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • Be able to attend the weekly ASDVC meetings every Tuesday from 2-4 p.m.
  • Participate in at least one College/District or ASDVC committee
  • Participate in the mandatory ASDVC Board retreat at the beginning of each semester

Please visit an ASDVC meeting! The meetings are held every Tuesday from 2:00-4:00pm in the Student Union Conference room. The meetings are open to the public.

Student Clubs and the Inter Club Council (ICC)

There are a variety of student clubs at DVC including those that focus on academics/careers; culture/diversity; recreation/sport; religion/spirituality; honor societies; and special interest topics. Students who want to start a new club must:

  • Attend a 'How to Start a New Club" workshop at the beginning of the semester
  • Have at least six currently registered DVC students as members
  • Officers must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and five units
  • Have an advisor who is a DVC employee (must complete Advisor Orientation)
  • Submit a completed "Application for Campus Club" by the deadline
  • Submit a Constitution.

Students who want to reactivate a returning club must:

  • Submit a completed "Club Renewal" form by the deadline
  • Have at least six currently registered DVC students as members
  • Officers must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and five units
  • Have an advisor who is a DVC employee (must complete Advisor Orientation)

Inter Club Council (ICC)

The Inter Club Council (ICC)  is recognized and funded by the Associated Students of Diablo Valley College (ASDVC). It consists of elected representatives from the various campus clubs. ICC meetings are held weekly during the semester in the Student Union building. It provides a forum for clubs to discuss upcoming events and ideas, vote on funding proposed events, and collaborate regarding student issues.

All clubs must have a representative attend the Inter-Club Council (ICC) meetings, which are held on Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. in the Student Union Conference Room.
