Emily Stone wins a Mini Cooper

Emily Stone, DVC's academic/student services manager for EOPS, had no idea that a $50 raffle ticket would bring her a new car.

"I'm a volunteer with One Brick, an organization that connects volunteers with one-time service projects in the community," Stone said. "One Brick was selling raffle tickets for a Meals on Wheels-San Francisco fundraiser, and I bought one raffle ticket on the last day they were selling them."

The next thing she knew, she'd received an email from Dave Shefferman, telling her she had won a new car. Her reaction? "What am I going to do with my Subaru?"

BMW/Mini of San Francisco donated the two-year lease of the Mini Cooper. Stone attended a key ceremony on June 17, when they officially handed her the key for the car.

One Brick provides support to local nonprofit and community organizations by creating a unique, social and flexible volunteer environment for those interested in making a concrete difference in the community. It enables people to get involved, have fun and make an impact without requiring individual long-term commitments.

"I love One Brick," Stone said. "I've had the opportunity to do a few projects [with them], and plan to do more in the future. I have made some good friends through One Brick, so I'm very grateful to be a part of this organization."

And the new car couldn't hurt, either.
