Two DVC students, Kristopher Uy (Pleasant Hill campus) and James Howe (San Ramon Valley campus) recently had outstanding performances at the National Taekwondo Collegiate Team trials at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.

Both students are members of the US National Collegiate Team, where Uy competes in welterweight and Howe in flyweight. No other college or university in the entire U.S. has more than one member on the team.

Howe, who is also a member of the U.S. National Team, is scheduled to compete for the U.S. at the World Taekwondo Championship in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Both Uy and Howe will be on hand to compete this May in Berkeley for the first Pan American Collegiate Taekwondo Championships. Taekwondo is an Olympic sport, and will also be competed at this year's 2009 University Games in Serbia.
