The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) has named Allison Gargalikis, a sophomore at Diablo Valley College, as its April Female Athlete of the Month.
A Viking athlete in swimming, Allison recorded three individual titles at the 2014 CCCAA Swim and Dive State Championships at East Los Angeles College, and was part of two relay state championships for DVC. In addition, each of those five winning races set new state records.
Allison had standout performances at the State Championship meet. She was part of the state-winning 400-yard medley relay team (3:48:45), which also broke the state meet record by 4.31 seconds. She was a standout on her second day of the championship, winning three state titles and setting three new state records. She won and set a new state meet record in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00:71), which also broke the pool record, the 50-yard breaststroke (28:19), and the 50-yard Butterfly (24.67). Finally, she was part of the winning relay team in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45:09), which also set a state meet record.
Allison’s victories helped lead Diablo Valley College to its first women’s Swim and Dive State Championship since 2007, and only the ninth in the DVC program’s history.
At that same state championship meet, DVC’s Kelsey Leonard won the 500-yard freestyle (4:57:76), the 200-yard freestyle (1:51:20), and the women’s 100-yard butterfly (55:54) and was part of the women’s record-setting champion 400-yard medley relay team (3:48:45) and the record-setting champion 200-yard medley relay team.
Rick Millington, DVC women’s swim coach, was named CCCAA Women’s Swim Coach of the Year.
