You can only get a Social Security Number (SSN) if you are offered a job. If you are
offered a job, these are the steps you must follow:
You must first be offered a job on campus.
Pick up a Letter of Employment form at the Business Services office with your employment
package.
Take the Letter of Employment form to your supervisor. The letter needs to be filled
out by the supervisor confirming that you have been offered employment.
Go to the ISO office to request approval to work. If approved, you will be given a
letter confirming you have been approved to work. This can take five days.
Go to a local Social Security Office and bring the following documents:
Completed Letter of Employment form
Letter from ISO verifying your full time F1 student status
SEVIS I-20
Passport
Visa
I-94
