Reeta Hernes, Psy.D. – DVC psychology graduate

Reeta Hernes"Like a lot of high school graduates, the idea of attending a university with 200 or more students per classroom was scary, and as a child of a single mom, the price tag for that university was even less appealing. Attending DVC was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I still remember the first psychology course I took and the lasting impression it had on me. I quickly realized psychology was the field for me. By using the transfer agreement program at DVC, I secured a spot at UC Davis where I received my bachelor’s in psychology. I went on to John F. Kennedy University to complete my Doctor of Psychology.

After graduation, I was given the opportunity to return to DVC as a teacher in the Department of Social Sciences. It was an amazing day when I arrived back on the DVC campus. It is an honor to inspire and mentor students interested in psychology and provide them with the knowledge to achieve all that is possible in the field of psychology."

Anthony Lee Miles Jr. - DVC psychology graduate

Anthony Lee Miles Jr."I completed my associate degree in Psychology for Transfer in the spring of 2014. DVC helped me explore my passions and encouraged me to pursue the areas of study that I was excited to learn about.

After completing my associate degree, I transferred to the University of California, Berkeley and graduated with a bachelor’s in Psychology in the fall of 2016. During my time at Cal I facilitated two original student taught electives, worked in a lab as a research assistant, and conducted an independent research study on depression and self-consistency which was granted funding through the Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP).

I am excited for my next step in pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology. My experiences taught me that life isn't about the destination, but instead the process, and if you stay present, receptive, and work hard, you will be able to achieve just what you need."
