Dr. Carmen has served in higher education, in both Student Services and Instruction, for over 25 years.  As a tenured psychology professor, her favorite courses to teach are The Psychology of Women and The Psychology of African Americans. Dr. Carmen has studied what she describes as, “The Psychology of Menstruation” for the past 10 years. She has extensive experience working in programs supporting students who have historically been under-represented in higher education, including the Puente Project, the Umoja Program, and residents of the Bay Area Rescue Mission.
 
The Founder of Period of Empowerment, Dr. Carmen helps to lead the culture-shift around menstruation via her Power to the Period™, Rock with Your Menstrual Rhythm™, and Daring Daddies of Daughters™ workshops.  She is an experienced speaker for businesses, professional associations, educational institutions, and community-based organizations.
