Decisions, decisions … the process is working!

The College Council forwarded the following recommendations that have been accepted interim president Peter Garcia:

  • DVC Workforce and Economic Development Plan
  • Diablo Valley College Mission Statement (the new shortened version)
  • Institutional Level Student Learning Outcome

Budget Committee

At its last meeting, the committee accepted previous reports as well as the planning parameters for the 2011-12 budget. Ongoing decisions at the state will continue to affect projections. The committee is also now planning for implementing “phase three” committee charges from the show cause report next year.

The next Budget Committee meeting will be held Friday, March 18, 8-10 a.m., L-151
Current chairs: Ray Goralka (management) and John Hanecak (faculty)

College Council

Over and above “decisions, decisions, ….” the busy council has also approved the Budget Committee’s recommendation for the 2010-2011 Annual Budget Plan, and recommended to the president a revised version of the DVC Procedure 1001.02 (College Council Function and Membership.) Francisco Hinojosa is the new student vice chair. Finally, they have begun discussions on changes to the evaluations for the college-wide committees and councils.

Institutional Planning Council

At the beginning of the term, the IPC co-chairs met with several leads of the college-wide plans to discuss how to better coordinate our DVC planning efforts. Their fruitful discussion led the IPC to some key principles to guide the term-long discussion. They hope to make some recommendations to College Council by the end of the term. Additionally, the Accreditation Steering Committee, which is a sub-set of IPC, has started the process to review the 94 items on the College Improvement Plan, which were previously identified for accreditation purposes. IPC will be soliciting input from the wider DVC community as it relates to the status of these 94 items.

The next IPC meeting will be held Monday, March 28, 3 - 5 p.m.
President’s Conference Room
Current Chairs: Emily Stone (management) and Despina Prapavessi (faculty)

The Integration Council

The Integration Council is hosting discussions focused on the challenges of long-term planning and priorities in a time of budget decline.

Members are currently reading program reviews to identify campus wide issues related to student access/success and the functions of the campus infrastructure. Their goal is to highlight critical needs across the campus and prioritize requests for resource allocations from all areas. They have been analyzing their findings to rank resource requests across Instructional, Student Services and Administrative Services areas. Resource requests are compared to a rubric of criteria for funding priority, including focus on student access and success, potential scale and degree of impact, consequences to program viability, alignment with Strategic Directions, and connection to safety issues and other mandates. These rankings and recommendations will be forwarded to the College Council.

The next Integration Council meeting will be held Monday, March 28, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Community Conference Room
Current Chairs: Keith Mikolavich (faculty) and Sue Handy (classified)
