September 14, 2020:  Continue your captioning to-do list for one module

Accessibility Goal of the Week

For this week, we will explore options for fixing any captioning issues you noted when you completed last week's goal.  Here's a Word doc you can use to help organize your to-do list (focusing on column 6).

  1. Look at your notes from when you started your to-do list last week.
  2. If you found that captions are present, include punctuation, and are 100% accurate, you are done!
  3. If you found issues with one or more videos in your module, read about your options for fixing below.  Just READ for now, next week we will focus on pursuing these options.
  4. After reading the options, make a note on which one(s) you plan to implement. Here's a Word doc you can use to help organize your to-do list (focusing on column 6).

Option 1:

Look for another, human-captioned video that will suit your instructional purpose.

Option 2:

If you are the video author, edit your own captions easily either through Canvas Studio or YouTube. ** This is a good option if your videos are short!

Option 3:

If you are the video author, submit the video (in mp4 or similar format) to 3CMedia.  This service can caption the video for you and is funded by the Chancellor’s Office.  Turnaround time is usually 3-5 business days, depending on the length.  Crystala Button made this handy guide for using 3CMedia. You can also check out this video for how to request captions from 3CMedia.

Option 4:

Regardless of whether you are the author, submit video(s) for captioning through Disability Support Services who will use an outside vendor.  ** Consider this option if you have a high volume of videos that need editing.

Now that your to-do list has been drafted, next week it's time to start doing!  Stay tuned :-)
