Cyber Security Career Academy (Introductory and Advanced)

The Cyber Security (Patriot) Career Academy is designed to excite students about cybersecurity career opportunities and the importance of cyber defense skills through hands-on instruction and activities. The Air Force Association (AFA) Cyber Camp will culminate in an exciting final team competition that simulates real cybersecurity situations faced by industry professionals and mimics AFA's Cyber Patriot National Youth Defense Competition. Interested students must complete all required forms below AND register for either CNT-150CS-1289 (Intro) and/or CNT-150DN-1290 (Advanced)

Students can also register for our other Introductory Cyber Security (Patriot) Career Academy, CNT-150CE, which will be hosted on our San Ramon Campus; however it will not be for college credit. Either Intro course will qualify a student to take the Advanced course.

Career Academy Information

Dates:

Introductory: June 24 - 28, 2019 - Pleasant Hill Campus

Introductory (Not for Credit): June 10 - 14, 2019 - San Ramon Campus

Advanced: July 29 - Aug. 2, 2019 - Pleasant Hill Campus

Note: Students must attend and pass the introductory academy first before they can participate in the advanced level academy. CNT-150CE (Intro) is NOT for college credit; however, will qualify as a prerequisite for CNT-150DN-1290 (Advanced)

All students who attended the Cyber camp and/or cyber patriot competition last year can enroll in the advanced academy this year.

Introductory (Not for college credit) on San Ramon Campus: E-161

Cost:

High school students pay ONLY $1.00 per unit.

No college credit = no cost

College credit:

CNT-150CS-1289 (Intro) and/or CNT-150DN-1290 (Advanced):

Earn 1 unit college credit and 2.5 units of high school credit.

CNT-150CE (Intro):

Not for college credit; however, will qualify as a prerequisite for CNT-150DN-1290 (Advanced)

Requirements:

Special Admissions Recommendation Form

  • Fill out and have signed by your high school principal before school gets out for summer
  • Hold on to this signed form until you receive an email stating you have been accepted into the Career Academy
  • Once accepted, you will be able to turn in this form starting June 2019 at either the Pleasant Hill or San Ramon Campus
  • Campus Hours: PHC - Monday, Wednesday, & Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm and Tuesday 8:00am-7:00pm; SRC - Monday-Thursday 9:00am-6:30pm *Closed Fridays

San Ramon Cyber Security Introductory Career Academy (Not for College Credit)

Students must attend and pass the introductory academy first before they can participate in the advanced level academy.

All students who attended the Cyber camp last year can enroll in the advanced academy this year.

Who can apply: This course is appropriate for students entering grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 for Fall 2019
Notes:
  • DVC does not provide meals; please make sure to pack your own lunch and snacks.
  • Because this class gives college credit, students must attend everyday for the whole time or they may receive a non-passing grade for the class on their college transcript.
