Health Careers Academy

Information and Updates: DVC Career Academies Summer 2020 Interest Card

Jump start your journey to a career in healthcare

The Health Careers Academy is a two-course program (Medical Terminology and Introduction to Health Careers with CPR training) that is open to high school juniors and seniors who have completed high school biology.

This six-week summer program is for college credit and introduces students to healthcare and healthcare careers through lecture, laboratory, and fieldwork experiences. These activities allow students to explore healthcare career specializations and provides a foundational overview of healthcare systems, processes, culture, ethics, and integrated professions.

HCA students will visit local healthcare facilities and participate in patient-centered experiences firsthand. Course content focuses on trending healthcare practices and current standards and will assist students to select appropriate educational programs and professional goals according to their academic goals.

Patient care experience is as valuable as the theory and academics that are behind the medical treatments. These courses are intended to develop students to become future healthcare leaders who will deliver excellent patient care as well as quality industry outcomes.
